1. The teacher will tell the class that today they will begin reading a new short story entitled “No Speak English.”
2. The instructor will then pass around an anticipation guide for the story and tell the students to take three minutes to read each question and put either a “D” for disagree or a “A” for agree next to each statement.
3. After three minutes have passed the teacher, will read each statement and ask the students to share their opinions.
4. Once the instructor has reviewed the anticipation guide he or she will read “No Speak English” aloud to the students.
5. The teacher will then ask the class why the woman in the story is sad. Why does she become upset when her baby’s first words are in English? Why do you think her husband moved to America even though his wife doesn’t like her new country?
6. The instructor will then have the class redo the anticipation guide.
7. After a few minutes the teacher will ask the students if anyone’s opinions have changed.
